Hungry were recently lucky enough to try out the seven-course tasting menu at the the highly-acclaimed Manor bistro in Clapham (www.themanorclapham.co.uk) and would definitely recommend it to anyone considering visiting the fine venue.
We arrived around 7pm on a Wednesday evening and were warmly welcomed by the head waiter who guided us to our spacious table and told us about the restaurant and their mantra. After devouring a delicious locally brewed beer we agreed on the tasting menu with drinks matched and waited in anticipation for our first dish. It wasn’t long before some homemade sourdough with nduja cultured cream and BBQ chicken skins arrived, followed by a delicate Cornish crab dish with barbecued melon. The first courses we’re delectable and the attention to detail was magnificent, with every dish arriving in elegant handmade plates and tasting amazing.
The main courses were just as good, if not even better, with a saddleback of pork and beef short rib giving us all huge smiles and a lot of clean plates. Every ingredient on the plate had a place and they all worked in harmony together. The drinks matched to each dish didn’t overpower the food but instead took it to another level. The portion side of every course was spot on too.
We finished our feast with a stunning blueberry sorbet palate cleanser, grilled peaches with oats and a dish of dark chocolate, molasses and anise hyssop ice cream. We all left the Manor with smiling faces, full bellies and a promise to return as soon as possible.
